Flash Fiction
It’s been a busy few weeks, the windy weather made me feel my life was being blown along at ridiculous speeds as well! The beginning of the school year always bring lots of “firsts”: First ballet lessons for the kids, first play dates, first…first tears over maths that doesn’t want to add up, words that can’t be spelled.
Firsts for me too, a few firsts that actually made me feel…odd…like a fraud! After all, I’m not really a writer, am I? Alright, I self published a book on Smashwords, but they were just little stories that I really enjoyed bashing out! It’s true that I’m now writing my first “real book”, but again, I just love the story. Does writing away, having a great time with the story and the characters, and the conversations they have, count as “writing”? Does that really make me a writer?
Anyway, I went to a real writers’ circle nearby, and had a fantastic morning. The topic was “Clouds” and everyone had such a different way of writing! I was the only one with fiction…but they were very kind and gracious, so I took their advice and entered it at Mslexia, the Flash Fiction Entry! Again, I just love looking at a title, and the people around that. Their conversations and manner of speaking will just come, and it’s wonderful just to imagine them wondering, talking, thinking and laughing together!
Anyway, the deed is done, my story about Storm Clouds has been entered into the competition! When I know for sure that I didn’t win, as there will be heaps of very clever, experienced writers entering, I will let you read my story… It was based on the Facebook pictures I saw of these huge, billowing storm clouds, and I just went from there!
